Long-term use of Tylenol (acetaminophen) found to cause kidney damage, says new study.

New research shows that long-term use of acetaminophen -- sold under the brand name Tylenol -- harms kidneys. This research was conducted on 1,700 women, and spanned 11 years.
Overall, it showed that 10% of the women experienced a decline in their kidney function, indicating that their kidneys were being harmed by this over-the-counter painkiller. Women who took between 1,500 and 9,000 tablets over their lifetimes raised their risk of kidney impairment by 64%, and women who took more than 9,000 tablets increased their risk even further.
This is more evidence of the dangers of consuming over-the-counter painkillers on a frequent basis. As a whole, over-the-counter painkillers are responsible for killing over 40,000 Americans each year -- that includes aspirin, acetaminophen, and other painkillers.

If it weren't for the extreme profitability of these pharmaceutical products, and the fact that their manufacturers hold such strong influence over the FDA, they would have been banned and pulled from the marketplace long ago.
Consider this: Tylenol is being shown to damage 10% of the people who use it on a long-term basis, and yet the FDA remains silent on the issue of public safety. Had this been an herb, such as ephedra, the FDA would have held a press conference and shouted headlines about how dangerous this herb is to consumers. In fact, ephedra was banned after being associated with the deaths of only a few dozen people, representing a tiny fraction of the total users who were taking the herb on a regular basis, yet over-the-counter painkillers such as acetaminophen and aspirin are killing 40,000 people each year, and according to this study, seriously damaging the kidney function of an astounding 10% of its users. That's a figure that makes these over-the-counter pain killers far more dangerous than ephedra, and yet the FDA says nothing. This research doesn't even mention the extreme liver damage caused by NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)-- which are anti-inflammatory drugs. When consumed with alcohol, NSAIDs cause severe liver damage and may ultimately lead to liver cancer and / or failure of the liver.
These risks are almost never mentioned in the popular press, nor are they publicized by the FDA, and so most people remain completely unaware of the significant health dangers associated with long-term use of these painkillers. All this creates a rather frustrating situation: harmful products are being marketed and sold to consumers without adequate warnings about the serious detrimental health effects they cause.
The FDA, which is supposed to be regulating the industry and protecting the public health, continues to ignore these safety concerns, and instead looks the other way for products that are manufactured by large pharmaceutical companies.
Simultaneously, the FDA exaggerates the health risk of nutritional supplements and medicinal herbs in order to regulate or remove those products from the market, thereby increasing the market potential of highly profitable, but far more dangerous, painkillers and prescription drugs. This is the structure of a drug racket -- extreme corruption in action, at the highest levels of government and industry. Potentially millions of Americans are being harmed and tens of thousands are being killed each year by over-the-counter painkillers such as acetaminophen and aspirin, and yet there is virtually no recognition of this problem in the press, and it receives almost no attention whatsoever by the FDA.
Let's face it: the human body is not designed to consume over-the-counter painkillers on a frequent basis. If you find yourself needing painkillers every day just to get from one day to the next, it's time to take a closer look at the source of your pain and seek treatments that can help balance your body and return it to a state of natural health without you needing to ingest pharmaceuticals that mask pain symptoms on a regular basis.
Winston's Comment:
If you take 100 tablets of aspirin, you can get your stomach pumped and you most likely will survive. If you take 100 tablets of Tylenol, they won't bother to pump your stomach as it shuts down your kidneys and liver.

Tylenol is so dangerous to the kidneys and liver that it is one of the most common teen suicide drug of choice. Talk to any ambulance medic and mention Tylenol and teen suicide and watch their long faces for this is a futile emergency call. There is nothing that they can do for the person other than hand them a piece of paper and a pen to write their will. The following is an excerpt from the Tylenol side effects: "If you take more than the maximum daily amount, it may cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms of liver damage: severe nausea, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain, extreme fatigue Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist." Note that they mention serious (possibly fatal) liver disease and this is one of the primary reason why teenagers use it as a suicide drug. Once the liver shuts down, it's all over. Nowadays, they are making Tylenol for babies. What are they thinking?! Tylenol is a petrochemical based material. Take a pair of tweezers and over the sink, light the tablet and watch the flame reach 2-3 inches long while dropping liquid flame downwards. Not too much difference between burning a toothbrush made from plastic... If you are camping and the wood is slightly wet, use Tylenol to assist the burning, it does a wonderful job... As a matter of fact, most medical drugs will catch on fire putting out a significant amount of flame. Mind you, these flames might be many times more toxic than the drug itself, as fire will change the drug composition, but if you are in a life and death situation and you need a flame, any medical drug is usually a good fire starter.
Acetaminophen Overdose
Keith Hawton and Louise Harriss of the University of Oxford examined the characteristics and long term outcome of adolescents under the age of 15 that were categorized as deliberately harming themselves. Over a 26 year period (from 1978-2003), data were collected from 710 adolescents under the age of 15 who came to general hospitals in central England because of deliberate self harm (DSH). Most were between the age of 12 to 14 and females outnumbered males 6.5 to 1. 680 of the 710 adolescents (95.8%) overdosed and over half used acetaminophen. The most common reported problems were with family members (77.3%), with friends (38.9%), and school (37.9%).

For those who have consumed fair amounts of drugs that damage the liver, it is wise to start taking various liver type supplements as well as herbs specifically designed to support the liver. There are hundreds of liver supporting herbs. Some of the best in my opinion are turmeric, dandelion, Chinese Scullcap root, artichokes, rosemary, milk thistle, and basically most dark green vegetables.

A Health Tip: How to Clean up Mold Correctly
Rule #1 NEVER use BLEACH! While bleach is the most common method to remove mold, it is the most toxic. Bleach or chlorine is a highly toxic material when bonded to any organic material, plant material, animal material, particularly your hands and your lungs. Chlorine will bond with these organic materials and form known or suspected carcinogens (cancer causing material). Secondly, every time you use bleach, the following occurs:
-
The chlorine bleaches out the mold
-
You leave a chlorine residue
-
The chlorine will ATTRACT mold to that spot
-
You are in a vicious cycle of using more toxic chlorine to clean out the mold that keeps coming back.

Rule #2 Break the tradition by using something that does not contain bleach.
-
Substitute BonAmi™ instead of chlorinated bleach cleansers. This product is gentle, non-toxic and efficient in cleaning stains and removing dirt.
-
You can use non-chlorine bleach powder (oxy-clean) or similar products and sprinkle it on the grout lines, wet it down gently with a misting bottle and let it sit for a while. This will bleach out the mold.
-
Put gloves on so that you don't bleach your hands. You can also use the same non-chlorine bleach powder directly on a sponge with or without BonAmi™ to clean the surface.
-
To ensure the mold doesn't come back, wipe the surface down with a grain alcohol such as Vodka.
Do not buy or use isopropyl alcohol, as this is one of the most carcinogenic materials that are unfortunately commonly used in the medical and industrial fields to disinfect tools and instruments.

New radio show airing on June 24, 2009, 1:00 PM (EST) on "banning back yard gardening". This is a bill (HR875) in front of Congress at the moment. This is obviously big agri and big pharma program to continue to fully take over food, drugs, and choices. Proposed fine is $1,000,000 (No, that's not a typo. That's 1 Million Dollars!). While I doubt this will get immediate approval, it certainly shows what the master plan is. If we continue to sit on our laurels, we will find ourselves tacked to the bench. |
